Antonio, Debra and Neil Chat with Georgie Bullen about her experiences of paralympic sport and setting up her company – Team Insight which combines team building and Visual Impairment awareness.
At the age of 5 Georgie developed a very rare eye condition that resulted in her being severely visually impaired, she is legally blind. She always attended mainstream schools and so had not experienced any sort of disability sport until 2008 where she was scouted for the GB Women’s Goalball team at a Paralympic Talent identification Day.
In the space of three and a half years Georgie worked her way up to being in the starting line up that competed at the 2012 Paralympics where they reached the quarter finals.
After the Paralympics Georgie decided to combine her passion for Goalball with her determination to educate people in visual impairment awareness, which was how Team Insight was created.
Team Insight uses the Paralympic sport of Goalball, as well as other blindfolded activities, as a unique team building experience which not only strengthens communication, trust and team work amongst groups, but also dramatically improves their visual impairment awareness. Due to its innovative and unique methods of delivering VI awareness, Team Insight gained the endorsement of the RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind people).
Team Insight has gone from strength to strength since it launched in 2014, so Georgie’s hope of improving Visual Impairment Awareness in the general public is continuously growing. More information is available on the Team Insight Website (This will open in a new Tab).
